Passivhaus Products
"Climate change is for real. We have just a small window of opportunity and it is closing rather rapidly. There is not a moment to lose."
Dr Rajendra Pachauri, Chairman, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
Green Building Store is committed to doing all it can to help address the urgent threat of climate change. As part of this, we are strong advocates of Passivhaus building design, which we believe offers the most effective and rigorous solution to low carbon construction in the UK. Passivhaus design includes features such as: maximising use of passive solar gain; super insulation; stringent airtightness standards; and use of mechanical ventilation and heat recovery systems.
Passivhaus Windows
Green Building Store is introducing the ENERsign range of Passivhaus windows to its sustainable window range. Certified by the Passivhaus Institute, ENERsign windows are extremely thermally efficient with a whole window U-value of 0.65 W/m2K, making them among the lowest U-value windows available in the UK.
Imported from German company Pazen and made using timber and fibreglass composite materials, the ENERsign range achieves high insulation values through design detailing. Features include: triple glazing; Neopor foam insulant; warm edge spacers; airtightness detailing. The low maintenance fibreglass exterior and clean profile makes this an attractive option for specifiers of Passivhaus buildings.

Passivhaus Ventilation (MVHR)
Comfort Ventilation (also known as Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery) is an essential part of Passivhaus building design. Green Building Store is now proud to be sole agent in England and Wales of PAUL Comfort Ventilation Systems. Imported from Germany, Green Building Store believes PAUL products offer the best integrated solution for MVHR. We are benefiting from the years of experience that PAUL have in this field and their support in design and supply of Comfort Ventilation systems.
Central to PAUL's ventilation system is the patented counter flow heat exchanger, which helps keep Passivhaus homes warm in winter and cool in the summer. Energy from the outgoing air is transferred to the incoming air. This works both ways so if the outside temperature is higher than inside the exchanger helps to maintain a constant pleasant climate. PAUL's heat exchanger is one of the most efficient on the market and can offer exceptional heat recovery of up to 99%.

Airtightness Systems
Green Building Store now offers the Pro Clima range of intelligent airtight tape & membrane systems. Airtightness is crucial to Passivhaus and low carbon buildings. Airtightness means the elimination of all unwanted draughts through the fabric of the building envelope using the correct and proper installation of a vapour check or vapour barrier. Consequently, condensation, mould, rot, damp and structural damage are also eliminated, ensuring a more viable structure, an insulation layer than can perform properly, reducing the amount of energy in use in the building and the CO2 emissions.

Passivhaus Design & Build
Our sister company Green Building Co. is currently working on a Passivhaus project in West Yorkshire. The home will be built to the energy performance standards of the Passivhaus standard (CarbonLite STEP 2). It will be one of the first projects in the UK to construct a Passivhaus home in the British vernacular style.
Green Building Company Director Bill Butcher previously built the Longwood low energy home in the 1990s and is Project Leader for the design and build. He recently attended the Passivhaus conference in Nuremburg, Germany and has extensive experience of Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP) software.
Green Building Company operates in the West Yorkshire and the North-West regions and would be interested to collaborate with any similar low carbon building projects.
